You might expect a home gym fitness giant like Peloton to offer ellipticals. However, they only specialize in bikes, treadmills, and most recently rowing machines. As of November 2022, Peloton doesn´t offer the elliptical machine or Elliptical lessons on the Peloton App.
When I first began training, I thought about getting an elliptical machine, as they´re quite fun to use and efficient to train with. However, as a bike fan, the Peloton caught my eye. I was a bit surprised to learn they didn´t offer any elliptical machine content at all. Nevertheless, I got the chance to ride a couple of elliptical machines and mix them with a Peloton ride. The results were quite good.
In this article, we´ll be discussing everything about Ellipticals and the Peloton App.
Now we´re going to compare the efficiency of a traditional Peloton workout against the performance you´d have during your elliptical workouts.
In terms of calories, Peloton classes tend to vary in intensity and length. However, it is safe to say that on average, a normal athlete can burn anywhere between 400 and 800 per hour. This is large because most workouts are guided and prepared by expert Peloton instructors.
With the elliptical. Going at an average pace for one hour, you can burn up to 400 calories. It´s still good exercise. However, by taking Peloton riding classes, you can increase this average to what you´d burn on an average Peloton session, as the bike and the elliptical work in very similar ways.
With Peloton equipment, you´ll have plenty of different classes to take. For example, with the bike, you can take scenic rides, bootcamp classes, climb rides, and HIIT workouts.
With the elliptical machine, your choices are very similar. You can still take a scenic ride or climbing rides. However, expect them to be slightly different and to work out different muscles.
When it comes to taking treadmill classes with the elliptical, it's also possible as elliptical machines also share certain similarities with the Peloton treadmill. Just keep in mind that you can't get the same experience as you normally would with a Peloton machine.
The answer is yes. Of course, there´s nothing stopping you from getting the Peloton digital app, creating an account, and taking classes (such as Peloton bootcamp classes, bike bootcamp classes, Peloton rides, Peloton outdoor runs, and more) from your tablet, laptop, or even TV.
Even though Peloton doesn´t offer ellipticals or content for them, you can try to adapt workouts to fit the elliptical. Just keep in mind that the results may vary, depending on the machine. However, it is still enjoyable to take these classes and train with the Peloton app.
You can try a couple of Peloton tread classes, such as tread bootcamp classes. Even though there are no Peloton elliptical trainers, a normal bike or tread trainer should be enough to successfully take the workout.
Since the elliptical is a sort of hybrid between the Peloton bike and the Peloton Tread, you can take both Peloton tread workouts and Peloton rides.
Some of the best Spin bike classes for the elliptical are the HIIT (High-intensity interval training) workouts, and climbing rides. The elliptical and the bike both have resistance levels, which makes it easy to stay in the class. Climbing rides are very similar, as it´ll just get tougher to pedal or to move with the elliptical. On the other hand, HIIT workouts are about small bursts of energy - and which machine you´re using doesn´t really matter.
Regarding Peloton tread workouts, any running class might be fun to take. However, sometimes, using the elliptical requires more energy than running. So be mindful of your resistance settings and your personal conditioning.
You can also try to take a bootcamp class, which mixes strength and cardio training. Since half of the class will be off-treadmill exercises, you´ll be able to keep up with more ease.
In the end, you can use your elliptical to lose belly fat, for regular workouts, to manage your body weight, or just for fun.
The Peloton app works the same way with every machine. The main difference is that if you don´t have a Peloton device, you won´t be able to link the app to your exercise machine. Instead, it´ll work like a fitness Netflix in which you´ll have to follow the classes.
You can find the app in the App store or on the Google Play Store. From here, you can download it and create an account. Once you´ve chosen your subscription, you can start enjoying classes and training.
Peloton doesn´t offer an elliptical, so if you still want to use an elliptical machine to train, your best bet is to get one and couple it with the Peloton app. Just keep in mind that there are no specific Peloton classes for the elliptical. Instead, you can take bike rides with an elliptical since they´re quite similar in many ways.
Here are three models worth considering.
If you´re looking for a budget elliptical that can do everything, going with the Yosuda Pro cardio climber isn´t a bad choice. Yosuda is a company whose philosophy is to build simplistic machines in terms of accessories. However, they invest their focus in the machine´s performance, which is great.
The Yosuda Pro elliptical machine works with magnetic resistance which has 16 different levels. The machine also has a unique bidirectional feature that allows you to train multiple parts of the body. It includes a USB port and also comes with a small LCD screen, which tracks your basic data, such as heart rate, calories burned, and distance traveled. Additionally, it also comes with a water bottle holder and a tablet holder, which come in handy for Peloton classes.
Overall, this machine provides one of the best value scenarios for you as a customer. You don't have to spend much or commit long term. You can get this machine for around $270, which is really accessible and friendly.
Sole is probably Peloton´s 2nd or 3rd biggest competitor in terms of exercise machine products. However, they take things further. They go much deeper into the indoor fitness world than Peloton, offering a variety of machines and models, whereas Peloton only offers the Peloton bike, tread, and the Peloton row.
The E95 Elliptical machine is one of Sole´s best rated and newest ellipticals. Traditionally, this elliptical is meant to work independently, but will work well with the Peloton App.
This elliptical features 20 different angle levels, which can help you work out different muscle groups at various intensity levels. Additionally, it comes with an interactive touchscreen where you can watch and do your workouts. This elliptical includes a peculiar feature called the "worm drive" which allows the machine to adapt to every rider´s strides and body mechanics. For this reason, it is rated as one of the best elliptical machines on the market.
You can find this machine for around $2,000 which is higher than other ellipticals. However, this is the most complete model overall.
The last elliptical we´ll review is the Schwinn 470. It is one of Schwinn´s best and most complete models on offer.
Much like Sole, Schwinn is known for placing a higher emphasis on the mechanical and performance aspect of the elliptical. However, they also dedicate a large part of their focus towards making the elliptical user-friendly, including the features which make riding more enjoyable.
This elliptical machine comes with Bluetooth speakers, and 29 built in workout programs you can use along with the Peloton app. Overall, this elliptical is quite comfortable to ride, and use, and efficient to train with.
You´ll be able to find this elliptical for around $1,500
Peloton offers 3 different exercise machines: The Bike, The treadmill, and the New Peloton Rowing machine. However, there are plenty more classes in the Peloton app, including yoga, meditation, stretching, and strength training.
The Peloton bike has two different generations. The original Peloton bike came out in 2014 and costs $1,500. The Peloton bike +, which came out in 2020 and will set you back $2,500. The Peloton treadmill costs $ 3,500 and the Peloton Row $3,200.
Even though Peloton doesn´t manufacture an elliptical machine or create elliptical workouts to train with, you can still take some of the classes. This is due to the similarities between the exercise machines. The results may vary. Nevertheless, you should still be able to have fun and get a good workout.
With an elliptical, you´ll be able to make use of the Peloton app by downloading it on your phone, tablet, computer, or TV. Once you´ve created a profile, you can begin your training. Based on the caloric output, it is quite clear that training with Peloton will give push you toward a more productive workout
Finally, we´ve recommended some ellipticals that work well with the Peloton app. In the end, you can choose the model you like the most and give the Peloton app a try.
