Does Peloton Have Elliptical? - A Quick Peloton Guide

You might expect a home gym fitness giant like Peloton to offer ellipticals. However, they only specialize in bikes, treadmills, and most recently rowing machines. As of November 2022, Peloton doesn´t offer the elliptical machine or Elliptical lessons on the Peloton App.

When I first began training, I thought about getting an elliptical machine, as they´re quite fun to use and efficient to train with. However, as a bike fan, the Peloton caught my eye. I was a bit surprised to learn they didn´t offer any elliptical machine content at all. Nevertheless, I got the chance to ride a couple of elliptical machines and mix them with a Peloton ride. The results were quite good.

In this article, we´ll be discussing everything about Ellipticals and the Peloton App.

Peloton vs. Elliptical

Now we´re going to compare the efficiency of a traditional Peloton workout against the performance you´d have during your elliptical workouts.

Calories

In terms of calories, Peloton classes tend to vary in intensity and length. However, it is safe to say that on average, a normal athlete can burn anywhere between 400 and 800 per hour. This is large because most workouts are guided and prepared by expert Peloton instructors.

exercise bike vs elliptical

With the elliptical. Going at an average pace for one hour, you can burn up to 400 calories. It´s still good exercise. However, by taking Peloton riding classes, you can increase this average to what you´d burn on an average Peloton session, as the bike and the elliptical work in very similar ways.

Workout Options

With Peloton equipment, you´ll have plenty of different classes to take. For example, with the bike, you can take scenic rides, bootcamp classes, climb rides, and HIIT workouts.

With the elliptical machine, your choices are very similar. You can still take a scenic ride or climbing rides. However, expect them to be slightly different and to work out different muscles.

When it comes to taking treadmill classes with the elliptical, it's also possible as elliptical machines also share certain similarities with the Peloton treadmill. Just keep in mind that you can't get the same experience as you normally would with a Peloton machine.

Can You Do Peloton Workouts on the Elliptical Machine?

The answer is yes. Of course, there´s nothing stopping you from getting the Peloton digital app, creating an account, and taking classes (such as Peloton bootcamp classes, bike bootcamp classes, Peloton rides, Peloton outdoor runs, and more) from your tablet, laptop, or even TV.

Even though Peloton doesn´t offer ellipticals or content for them, you can try to adapt workouts to fit the elliptical. Just keep in mind that the results may vary, depending on the machine. However, it is still enjoyable to take these classes and train with the Peloton app.

You can try a couple of Peloton tread classes, such as tread bootcamp classes. Even though there are no Peloton elliptical trainers, a normal bike or tread trainer should be enough to successfully take the workout.

What Are the Best Peloton Classes for the Elliptical Machine?

Since the elliptical is a sort of hybrid between the Peloton bike and the Peloton Tread, you can take both Peloton tread workouts and Peloton rides.

Peloton Bike Classes

Some of the best Spin bike classes for the elliptical are the HIIT (High-intensity interval training) workouts, and climbing rides. The elliptical and the bike both have resistance levels, which makes it easy to stay in the class. Climbing rides are very similar, as it´ll just get tougher to pedal or to move with the elliptical. On the other hand, HIIT workouts are about small bursts of energy - and which machine you´re using doesn´t really matter.

Peloton Tread Workouts

Regarding Peloton tread workouts, any running class might be fun to take. However, sometimes, using the elliptical requires more energy than running. So be mindful of your resistance settings and your personal conditioning.

You can also try to take a bootcamp class, which mixes strength and cardio training. Since half of the class will be off-treadmill exercises, you´ll be able to keep up with more ease.

In the end, you can use your elliptical to lose belly fat, for regular workouts, to manage your body weight, or just for fun.

How to Use the Peloton App with an Elliptical?

The Peloton app works the same way with every machine. The main difference is that if you don´t have a Peloton device, you won´t be able to link the app to your exercise machine. Instead, it´ll work like a fitness Netflix in which you´ll have to follow the classes.

You can find the app in the App store or on the Google Play Store. From here, you can download it and create an account. Once you´ve chosen your subscription, you can start enjoying classes and training.

Best Elliptical Alternatives

Peloton doesn´t offer an elliptical, so if you still want to use an elliptical machine to train, your best bet is to get one and couple it with the Peloton app. Just keep in mind that there are no specific Peloton classes for the elliptical. Instead, you can take bike rides with an elliptical since they´re quite similar in many ways.
